Thai ISP Outgoing Mail Servers SMTP
In most modern countries such as the UK, USA, Australia etc, most ISP’s (Internet Service Providers) who provide internet services to homes and offices in their respected countries will allocate a fixed IP address for your office or home. What this basically means is that every time you logon to the internet, your IP address stays the same and will not change.
In Thailand however, this is not the case and what you will find is that every time you connect or disconnect to the internet, you will get a different IP address each time which is known as a Dynamic IP.
An IP address is basically a set of numbers to identify your PC or device connection. For more info and to see your IP address you can check it here: http://www.whatismyip.com/
Because ISP’s in Thailand change your IP address frequently, this has caused many problems for people in Thailand who use company email addresses such as info@your-website-name.com and would like to be able to send emails from an email programme such as Windows Live Mail, Outlook Express, Mozilla Firebird etc. This is because many of the Dynamic IP addresses are BLACKLISTED. So while you can set up your email addresses in your email programme and receive emails all day long, you may from time to time have issues when sending out emails.
This is mainly because many computers in Thailand are infected with computer viruses and worms due to such a large number of people not accustomed to cleaning their PC or Laptop to get rid of unwanted viruses and worms.
We all know what junk email is as we have all had emails arrive into our mail box when we have not requested the mail in the first place. Some pretending to be our banks, selling this or that item or just general junk and spam.
This junk mail is resulted from computers around the world infected with worms. When you connect to the internet through an infected PC, you could be sat there working away and be totally unaware that your PC or Laptop is actually sending out this junk mail to people from all around the world.
Because you do not know this is happening, and you have no idea your PC has been compromised, the actual IP address that the infected computer is sending email from then gets blacklisted and thus stops your infected PC from sending out junk emails.
So what does this mean for you?? Your PC is probably clean and virus free so don’t worry about that. You won’t get an error message when sending email because you have a virus or worm. It is because your ISP's IP address is blacklisted.
While your computer might be clean, virus and worm free, the person who was connected to the internet from his computer 500 miles away the day before with the same IP address was not. Because their infected PC was sending out junk, their IP address is now blacklisted and you Mr or Mrs innocent 500 miles away trying to run your business connects to the internet and gets given that same IP address can now not send out email from your email programme until you get given a clean IP address again.
Recently, we have found that if you change your Outgoing Mail SMTP number to: 587 you just may well be able to send out emails regardless as to whether your IP address is blacklisted.
This has worked for us so I suggest you give it a try.
Every customer has their very own private webmail system where they can send and receive emails online at webmail.your-domain-name.com. This is very handy to use if you are travelling or experiencing the same problems as detailed above.
