What is Linux?

Linux is a UNIX-like operating system that was designed to provide personal computer users a free or very low-cost operating system comparable to traditional and usually more expensive UNIX systems. Linux has a reputation as a very efficient and fast-performing system.

Linux's kernel (the central part of the operating system) was developed by Linus Torvalds at the University of Helsinki in Finland. To complete the operating system, Torvalds and other team members made use of system components developed by members of the Free Software Foundation for the GNU Project.

Do you support ASP.NET?

All our servers are Linux based, and unfortunately ASP.NET (and .NET2) requires a Windows hosting environment - as such this is not available on any of our accounts. Do note that ASP.NET is not the next generation of ASP and that it is an entirely new and Windows server environment only development package.

What is ASP?

Active Server Pages. (This might be a little confusing because ASP also stands for "Application Service Provider"). ASP is a Microsoft technology that runs inside Windows 2000 or Windows XP. To run on Linux Heart Internet have deployed Java System Active Server Pages.

I've uploaded a compiled CGI program why does it not run?

If the program is a CGI binary written in a language such as C it may not run if the program was compiled on a different platform such as s Sun Solaris machine.

It will need to be compiled on a 0x86 Linux platform.

Can I use ASP Components such as CDONTS, ADONTS and others on my package?

At AWebOnline.com in order for us to provide the highest levels of support and functionality, we exclusively use Linux based servers with ASP support provided using Sun ONE ASP. As such, Windows® based ASP components are not supported at present.

Our UK servers and connection is far more advanced, secure and stable than what we can provide for you in Thailand at present. Your website is your business and for many is your livelihood.
